Black. Single. Mother.
Check out our most recent episode with author and parenting expert Jamillah Lemieux. We talk about parenting, abortion, and her new book - "Black. Single. Mother."
If you can name a major newspaper or magazine in the US, Jamilah Lemieux’s writing has likely been featured there. She is a parenting expert and writer for Slate’s advice column “Care and Feeding.” This week her new book came out: “Black. Single, Mother: Real life tales of Longing and Belonging.”
The book chronicles her story as a single mother and includes 21 interviews of single black mothers about their stories of motherhood. Jamilah is a brilliant writer and commentator and we were fortunate that she spent some time talking with us about her life. Jamilah also shared her abortion story with us. Her story, like many abortion stories in the US, is a common one. She was already a parent and abortion, for her, was a parenting decision. Like 50-60% of people in the US choosing abortion, she was already a parent.
We talk about regret, consequences, and parenting. Check out our discussion and buy Jamilah’s book today!
Jamilah was also featured on Fresh Air last week. Which means Jonas and I are only 1 degree of separation from Terry Gross.
