Paging Dr. Fran
This week we talk with OB-Gyn social media influencer, Dr. Fran, who is expert at dispelling misinformation about reproductive health.
People are increasingly gaining health information from social media. A recent Pew Research institute study revealed that upwards of 36% of Americans get medical information from social media, with another 22% getting information from AI. While people recognize that it might not always be accurate, they do love the convenience. Misinformation about abortion and contraception abounds and we wanted to better understand how one might approach the heaps and heaps of lies.
Social media influencer, Dr. Fran, has been expertly dispelling misinformation for many years now. She became well known due to some early videos supporting patients seeking permanent contraception. She created a list of physicians offering patients tubal sterilization without giving them a hard time about it. She regularly confronts OB-gyn related misinformation on her social media platforms in an effort to inject evidence into an evidence-adverse zone.
